I am in DESPERATE need of some pledge drive help this Thursday, August 11th and next Thursday August 18th from 9am until Noon for my Big Texas Blues radio program at KNON. You will be answering the phone and taking down information from listeners making pledges. I promise it's really easy, and if you've never been to KNON, it's fun to actually be in the studio.
If you are interested in helping out, you can email me at bluelisablues@aol.com
Or, if you are reading this on either Thursday morning and are free, jump in the car and come on over. You can never have too many pledge helpers!
KNON is located at 5353 Maple Avenue, Dallas, 75235, at the corner of Maple and Butler. The entry for KNON is at the back of the building, Take the stairs or the elevator and you'll see the control booth as soon as you make the corner.
So if perhaps you've been wanting to pledge, but been unable to because of your finances, helping to take listeners pledges is a great way to help KNON and Big Texas Blues.
Thanks,
Blue Lisa

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHARLIE SEXTON!
Born August 11, 1968 in San Antonio, moved to Austin at age 4. He and younger brother Will were taught to play guitar by the Godfather of Austin Blues, W.C. Clark. Along with Doyle Bramhall II, Chris Layton & Tommy Shannon in 1992 formed the undeniably cool could-only-come-out-of-Texas-kick-ass Arc Angels, after the passing of friend and mentor Stevie Ray Vaughan. Currently part of Bob Dylan's band. Happy Birthday to the incredibly versatile CHARLIE SEXTON!! CERTAINLY you already own the Arc Angels CD's, but you should really be good to yourself and check out Charlie's solo 2005 release "Cruel and Gentle Things". The songs on that CD will get inside your heart, head and soul and will both comfort and haunt you all of your remaining days. Kudos to you, Charlie. Can't wait to see where your musical life leads you next!
This shot, my very favorite photo of Sexton, was taken by the talented Rick Moore.

HELP LOCAL BLUES ARTISTS GET THE RECOGNITION THEY DESERVE FOR FREE!!!
I just received the following from Christian Dozzler in his monthly calendar e-mail: Dear friends of the blues, Please vote for me, I’m running for Governator of Texas! Now that I got your attention: You can help Robin Banks and me with your vote to get a feature article in Blues Revue, the biggest blues magazine worldwide. They have finally reviewed our CD “Livin’ Life” from 2009, which automatically enters us in a contest, where the 4 bands with the most votes will be featured in the next issue. Please cast your vote at http://bluesrevue.com/2011/03/the-band-contest-march-april-2011 In the field “place vote for” scroll down to our names. You can also win something. Thanks a lot! You can vote for 4 bands. In addition to Christian and Robin, there are also listings to vote for KM Williams, Cookie McGee and Dr Wu and Friends (containing a literal who's who of Ft. Worth Blues royalty, including Buddy Whittington). Of course, those are just my suggestions. There are many fine, deserving blues artists to choose from. But choose quickly - voting is on now and voting ends April 7th.

WWBTW?

That translates into What Will Big Tex Wear.
Being a practical Texan, the big guy prefers Dickie's, made for him in Ft. Worth.
Every three years, he gets new duds, and this is the year for it. (This is also the 125th Anniversary for The State Fair of Texas http://www.bigtex.com/ )
Through April 11th, go to Dickie's Facebook page (facebook.com/dickies) to vote for one of the three possible shirt designs.

Label of love: Eddie Stout's on a mission
Great article on Dialtone Records out of Austin, who released the latest KM Williams CD "When I Rise" that's charting all over the world. That's the one that Andrea Dawson, Hash Brown, Washboard Jackson and myself are on as well.
Being an unpaid volunteer at KNON for over 11 years myself to present "Big Texas Blues", I understand and appreciate a guy like Eddie. Keeping the blues alive is certainly NOT about the money!
