THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29TH IS NATIONAL CAT DAY!!

Good Lord, will she EVER shut up and feed us? Starsky & Hutch hanging out in Catopia.

Thursday, October 29th, 2009 is National Cat Day. My own kitties, Starsky & Hutch (named after the original TV show, not that ridiculous movie) wouldn't ever let me forget it if I didn't mention it. They are a constant source of love and amusement for me. They have been brought up on the blues, and bless their purring little hearts, have become somewhat of blues purists. Case in point - on Wednesday nights, they will sleep peacefully through Scott's Texas Blues Radio program, but the moment it's over and Dave Chao's "Twisted Kicks" comes on, they raise thier heads, glare at the radio, and leave the room!

So in honor of Starsky & Hutch and cool kitties everywhere, I'll be talking about National Cat Day on my show Thursday, as well as playing a special kitty blues - Hudson & the HooDoo Cats "I Like Kitties". If you love cats, you don't want to miss it.

You can find out more about National Cat day at http://www.nationalcatday.com/

Here's some info from that web site:

National Cat Day was founded by Pet Lifestyle Expert & Animal Behaviorist, Colleen Paige to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of cats that need to be rescued each year and also to encourage cat lovers to celebrate the cat(s) in their life for the unconditional love and companionship they bestow upon us.Estimates reveal that there are approximately 4 million cats entering shelters every year with 1-2 million being euthanized. Often cats are overlooked and under-appreciated because they don't usually have jobs like dogs. But cats still lower blood pressure, offer unconditional love and companionship and alert their owner of danger.Cats have so many puuuurrrrsonalities and there is so much to love about them! Even if you can't adopt a cat, offer to volunteer to clean a cage or sit and play with a cat for a while. Who knows? You may just fall in love! Please visit your local shelter on October 29th, offering love and life by adopting a homeless cat. The goal of National Cat Day is to facilitate the adoption of 10,000 shelter cats nationwide on October 29th.

Of course, if you are as lucky as me, and are already owned by some wonderful cat(s), it's a great day to let the love and catnip flow.

The Egyptians worshiped cats as Gods. Cats have never forgotton this.

NO BLUE LISA'S BIG TEXAS BLUES 9/24 & 10/1

I've had contact today with several concerned listeners who missed it when I made the announcement right before the Live Music Calendar on air last week, but due to other commitments, I will not be at KNON on 9/24 or 10/1. As we do not have a morning show sub, I do not know who will be filling in for me.

October is our anniversary month, you and I, loyal listener - we're celebrating 10 years of Big Texas Blues on KNON! So listen for special, cool stuff all month, starting with the 10/8 show when I'll be back on air and my special guest in the studio will be the charismatic Zac Harmon talking about the KNON benefit on 10/10 with Zac, Kirkland James and the fabulous Paul Byrd! See the poster aboove and find out more info at http://www.knon.org/

Thanks to all of you loyal Big Texas Blues listeners for making the last 10 years so fun for me! Let's do it another 10!
And don't forget to read my earlier post about how you can get into the great State Fair of Texas for FREE on Friday, October 16 by wearing your KNON workshirt!

Howdy folks! Can you smell it? It's the unmistakable scent of The State Fair of Texas - corny dogs, barnyard animals and fried butter. Yes, I'm not making that last one up up - Fried Butter was the winner of this years Most Creative New Food. (For a list and description of all of the new foods at the Fair this year, go here: http://www.bigtex.com/foodlocator/newfoods.asp ) Even David Letterman took notice of the Fried Butter - you can watch what he had to say about it here: http://www.cbs.com/late_night/late_show/video/?pid=jB9jQIxrjoYO_WAf2lcAPiYMjtJB5mj0

Bob Dylan Makes A Switch - Freeman Out, Sexton Back In

Just read this note on the Continental Club's "Continental Confidential" weekly newsletter:

Austin guitarist Charlie Sexton was offered his old job back in Bob Dylan's band, replacing another Texas guitar great, Denny Freeman. Freeman may not have seen the last of Dylan, since Dylan himself said that he may be calling him back. I'm sure Charlie is pleased to be back with Dylan, and Denny says "Well at least it's Charlie."

Well, it's like I always say, no band lasts forever.

So...

What does this mean for the newly reformed ARC Angels? Will we EVER get that new CD now?

Will Denny Freeman head back to Dallas? Will we get to see him start playing more gigs in the DFW area?

Stay tuned folks.

IS IT REALLY ABOUT HEALTH CARE? IN OTHER WORDS THOSE OF YOU WHO THINK YOU KNOW EVERYTHING ARE ANNOYING THOSE OF US WHO DO

Politics are important. Many, many brave men and women have given thier lives so that you and I can exercise our freedom of choice daily in the USA.

So, please, before you utter one word about the Healthcare Reform bill, for the love of God, read it first.

This has been a public service message from Blue Lisa because she thinks you should develop your own opinion based on fact instead of some crap you see or hear in the media.

Sometimes You Just Need A Laugh

Amanda, the World Traveler, Part 3

Amanda comes home Thursday. But of course my little hard rocker couldn't leave London without visiting the original Hard Rock Cafe - in her KNON t-shirt, of course!

Have to admit, we're both hugely into punk!

That's a guitar from the Red Hot Chili Peppers she's holding. Don't EVEN want to know how she got her hands on it!

Her idol, Billy Idol!

Amanda with a guitar from Bob Dylan.

I took her to her first Hard Rock when she was not quite a month old, so the Hard Rock feels like home! First stop when she come home - the new Hard Rock Cafe in Dallas!

Arc Angels @ the House of Blues Dallas 7-9-09

Here's some pictures from the Arc Angels show at the HOB last Thursday, 7-9-09. They aren't real clear (I took them with my camera phone) but there are cool light effects on some of them.

New Arc Angels CD/DVD coming in August 2009 - part live footage shot in 2005, part documentary about the history of the band up to the present + 3 new songs! You can order your advance copy and find out more at http://www.arcangelsmusic.com/
Charlie Sexton told me himself in April that the CD/DVD would come out first, and would be followed by a brand new CD with all new songs. Can't wait for that!!

Amanda, the World Traveler

Many of you who attend KNON events or listen to my radio show are familiar with my niece and sometimes co-host, Miss Amanda. Well, currently the UT Arlington Junior (who has a 4.0 average - yes, I'm bragging, but that girl is kicking butt!) is in London, England for 6 weeks, where she was accepted into a study program at the University of Middlesex. What do you wear when you're shopping at Harrod's in London on a Thursday afternoon while back in the States your aunt hosts Big Texas Blues? Well, your KNON t-shirt of course - the same one you wore on the plane so it would be what you were wearing when you arrived at Heathrow Airport! Go Amanda, GO!!!

This weekend, the KNON t-shirt goes to Paris, France, and before she comes home in August, it's going to Stonehenge! I only wish MY KNON t-shirts were so well traveled...
