DALLAS / FT WORTH / N TEXAS LIVE BLUES 10/22/15 THRU 10/28/15

SMOKIN' JOE KUBEK MEMORIAL
THIS SATURDAY IN DALLAS!
BLUES AGAINST BREAST CANCER BENEFIT - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24TH
POOR DAVID'S PUB, 1313 SOUTH LAMAR STREET, 214-565-1295
DONATIONS ACCEPTED AT DOOR  6:00 PM
Acclaimed Dallas blues guitarist Smokin' Joe Kubek passed away suddenly on October 11, 2015, in North Carolina. Joe himself had already set up this benefit to raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer Research. It is now also a memorial to his legacy.

As a result of Joe's untimely passing, The Blues Against Breast Cancer event is now to directly benefit Joe's wife, Phyllis Kubek, who is battling the disease.  She could always count on Joe to be there for her, but now that he's gone, Phyllis will now be on her own and left without income and plenty of bills to pay.  I have to say I witnessed first hand Joe's touching love, admiration and devotion to Phyllis.  I can't even pretend to understand how hard this must be for her. Not only has she lost an irreplaceable partner in life, she is battling a horrific disease.

Here's the musical lineup for the evening:

6:00 PM Ray and The Ray Bands
6:45 PM Outta The Blue
7:30 PM Ann Armstrong
8:15 PM The Silvertones featuring Pat Boyack
9:00 PM Wanda King
10:00 PM The Zac Harmon Band
11:00 PM Bnois King and Friends, Texas Slim, Pat Boyack

The memorial is being organized by many of Joe's closest friends, including David H. Holcombe, who knew Joe since the early 70's in Dallas, where they played in various garage bands together, Poor David's Pub owner David Card, Pat Boyack, Zac Harmon, and Wanda King, daughter of bluesman Freddie King, who gave Joe his start as a professional musician.

Holcombe sums up what so many feel in our loss of Joe, "He was always kind and gracious to me and I learned a lot about music and performance from him. Joe meant so much to the local music scene as he mentored a lot of up and coming blues guitarists. He truly loved his wife, Phyllis, and always spoke of her in the highest regards."

Donations Needed

We're asking the Blues Music Community to donate toward Phyllis' living expenses and also for good wishes, prayers and moral support. As tough as this for all of Joe's fans, please consider how this tragic loss is impacting Phyllis. The best way to honor Joe is to help the woman he loved so deeply.

If anyone wants to make donations to ease the financial stress she will be facing there are three ways fans can contribute:
