DALLAS / FT WORTH / N TEXAS LIVE BLUES 5/12/16 THRU 5/18/16

My heart is heavy as I write this. The Blues world lost one of it's most beautiful voices and powerful, positive influences when Candye Kane, 54, passed away on Friday, May 6th at 10pm. Candye had been battling pancreatic cancer for 8 years. For a while it seemed she was truly the Toughest Girl Alive, coming back time and time again against her illness. But the last time I saw her, late last year on a Monday night in Ft Worth (picture above), when I went to hug her, I got such a shock - that fabulous smile and voice were still there, but her big beautiful body that she celebrated in life and song was skin and bones. I cried when I got home that night, because I knew then it was just a matter of time.

I was fortunate to have her play one of my anniversary shows a decade back, and she played several other KNON Benefits at well. I had several conversations with her over the years and I know she loved the fact that I have always focused on playing as many Blueswomen as possible on BIG TEXAS BLUES. She was a woman's woman - encouraging and mentoring those around her to love themselves no matter what age or size.

I was, and will remain in awe of her open minded attitude toward life and the people in it. She managed to remain positive through out her life when fate threw things at her that would have made lesser mortals bitter. The world needs more of her. I am saddened that we won't get it now.

It is pledge drive, but I will be featuring her songs on my show this evening because that's the gift she left us, and I want as many people as possible to hear them.

Goodbye, Candye Kane, you fabulous DIVA you. You might have lost the battle, but personally, I think you won the war.
